Dear Dog’s Ear customers,
We are pleased to offer downloads of many titles from the Dog’s Ear music library. The digital distribution system, and the effect on a business revenue model, is new to all businesses. After a thorough review, we have come to understand that it actually costs us 10% more to deliver a digital download than to send hard goods. Consequently, our downloads are provided as a convenience to our customers and out of environmental concerns.
We know that the public perception is that downloads should be cheaper because of the lack of actual print and manufacturing cost. The hidden equation is the digital infrastructure necessary to deliver. Small businesses have to ‘rent’ the services of companies with large server capacities. It is this cost that has such a great impact. As digital distribution technology evolves and distribution fees come down, we will gladly pass this along to our customers.
