Lisa Spector

Lisa Spector is a concert pianist, Juilliard graduate, and canine music expert. By combining her passion for music with her love of dogs, she co-founded Through a Dog’s Ear.

As a concert pianist, Lisa has won first prizes in Chopin competitions in New York and Los Angeles and has performed in China, Poland, Spain, France, Italy and throughout the U.S. (More info on her concert performing career here.)

Spector heads the Through a Dog’s EarMusic in Shelters” program, a project inspired by her volunteer work in shelters. Her piano playing is currently played in over 1,500 shelters worldwide, where it is helping increase adoption rates.

An agility enthusiast and former puppy raiser for Guide Dogs for the Blind, Lisa performs Classical Canine Concerts (for people and dogs) as fundraisers for non-profit animal organizations. Currently she shares her home and her heart in the San Francisco Bay Area with two “career change” dogs from Guide Dogs ~ Sanchez and Gina. Joshua Leeds

Joshua Leeds is a sound researcher, music producer and educator. He is one of few published authorities in the field of psychoacoustics—the study of the effects of music and sound on the human nervous system. Publications include Through a Dog’s Ear (Sounds True, 2008), The Power of Sound (Healing Arts Press, 2001), and Sonic Alchemy (InnerSong Press, 1997).

Collaborating with leaders in health, psychology, and neurodevelopment, Joshua’s application-specific soundtracks are used in clinics and classrooms around the world. New psychoacoustically designed soundtracks are now also heard in animal shelters, kennels and doghouses…

Joshua is the producer of the clinically tested Through a Dog’s Ear CD series.

Apollo Chamber Ensemble

Apollo was the mythical Greek and Roman god with the charge for both music and medicine. Following in this tradition, the musicians of the Apollo Ensemble create ever more refined sonic applications for the enhancement of human and animal function. Instrumentation varies per album and includes string quintet, woodwinds, harp and piano. Sumptuous recordings feature the timeless music of the western classical repertoire.
