To Blog or Not To Blog

I am a pet blogger! I wasn’t when I started my blog in 2009, or at least I didn’t feel like one. But, I listened to some good advice and just started writing and publishing weekly. Looking back, I’m very glad that I started writing blogs before anyone was reading them. It gave me the skills that I needed to really become a pet blogger. Originally, I started writing mostly about Through a Dog’s Ear, my inspiration behind the co-creation of music that calms dogs, and my knowledge of how our human soundscape influences our beloved canines. But, gradually my topics expanded into everyday dog related topics. Since my dogs, Sanchez and Gina, are with me almost all the time, every day occurrences often turn into a blog. My blog titled “My Dogs is Like American Express, I Don’t Leave Home Without Him” even made it to the front page of Digg.

When I attended BlogPaws West in Denver in 2010, I really didn’t feel like a pet blogger at the start of the conference. But, by the time the weekend ended, I felt like one. While there, I learned how to Be the Change for Pets. And only two days later, I was hired as a pet blogger by Care2.com. With more than 17 million members, Care2 is the largest online community of people making a difference in animal welfare, healthy and green living, human rights, and more.

And, if there was any doubt that I really declared myself to be an official pet blogger, it was erased today when I was written up as a featured community member in the Blog Paws January newsletter. What an honor! So, my answer to the question of this blog title is obvious… “To Blog”

Good article. I just learned about blogpaws today as it’s coming to my town soon. Sounds like a good time at one of these conferences.
